The Artificial Intelligence Olympiad of Nepal (AION) is Nepal’s national AI competition, offering students an exciting opportunity to test their knowledge, develop their problem-solving skills, and compete for the chance to represent Nepal on the international stage.
The competition is open to eligible students from Grade 8 to Grade 12, including A-Level students. Whether you are already exploring artificial intelligence or simply curious about the technology shaping our future, AION provides an opportunity to challenge yourself, strengthen your analytical thinking, and discover your potential in this rapidly evolving field.

Competition Timeline
• Round 1 (Online Round): November 21, 2026
Open to eligible students across Nepal, assessing knowledge and skills outlined in the official AION syllabus.
• Round 2 (Provincial Round):
Top-performing participants from the Preliminary Round advance to an in-person competitive round conducted at the provincial level.
• Round 3 (National Final):
The highest-performing participants advance to the National Final in Kathmandu, where they compete for selection to Team Nepal.
• Finale (IOAI 2027 Singapore): July 4–10, 2027

About AION
AION is more than a national competition. It is Nepal’s pathway to the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), where students from participating countries come together to demonstrate their AI knowledge, technical abilities, and problem-solving skills.
Through the national selection process, four outstanding students will be selected to form Team Nepal and represent the country at IOAI 2027 in Singapore, taking place from 4–10 July 2027. The international competition provides an opportunity for students to challenge themselves at a higher level, gain valuable experience, and represent Nepal among talented young AI enthusiasts from around the world.
Nepal has participated in IOAI since 2024, with four students representing the country in each of the 2024, 2025, and 2026 editions. In 2026, Team Nepal achieved a significant milestone at IOAI in Astana, Kazakhstan, earning one Bronze Medal and three Honourable Mentions. This achievement reflects the growing potential of Nepali students in artificial intelligence and sets an exciting precedent for the next generation of participants.
