eSewa x WWF Hackathon 2026

Innovation thrives when bold ideas meet real-world challenges. This first-of-its-kind collaborative hackathon between eSewa and WWF brings together developers, designers, and innovators to build impactful solutions at the intersection of fintech, security, and sustainability. Participants will build solutions that can potentially go into production and create a measurable impact. This isn’t just a hackathon; it’s a movement toward smarter and more secure digital finance, Inclusive and user-friendly systems, technology-driven environmental impact, and a collaboration between fintech and sustainability ecosystems.

 

Event Details

📅 Hackathon Start: 3rd June 2026
📅 Registration Period: 28th March 2026 – 28th April 2026

🏁 Idea Submission Deadline: 28th April 2026
📅 Evaluation Period: 28th March – 2nd June 2026

 

Challenges

Participants must choose one of the following problem statements:

• Challenge 1: Wildlife Image Classification: Automatically sort camera trap images into wildlife vs non-wildlife
• Challenge 2: Real-time KYC document quality detection to identify blur, glare, and improper framing during document capture.
• Challenge 3: Adaptive KYC flow that adjusts requirements based on user type (domestic users, NRAs, foreign nationals, and others).
• Challenge 4: Intelligent KYC experience with smart form assistance to reduce errors and support tickets.
• Challenge 5: Fraudulent KYC Detection: Identify suspicious or forged KYC submissions before approval.
• Challenge 6: Risk-based authentication for MPIN reset that evaluates context and behavior to prevent account takeovers.
• Challenge 7: Context-aware OTP security warning system that adapts messaging based on risk and user behavior.
• Challenge 8: Authentication anomaly detection for unusual login patterns like device changes, rapid attempts, or location anomalies.
• Challenge 9: Interactive Scam Simulation: Teach users to recognize scams through gamified simulations.
• Challenge 10: Smart group expense management for splitting bills, tracking balances, and settling payments.
• Challenge 11: Intelligent payment scheduling and recurring payment automation with reminders.
• Challenge 12: Early warning system using sensors (camera traps, motion, acoustic, drones) to detect animal movement and send alerts via SMS, mobile apps, or sirens.

 

What to Expect

• Collaborate in teams of up to 4 members.
• Validate ideas with mentors throughout the event.
• Build working solutions using API sandbox, mock datasets, and design systems.
• Present solutions to expert judges for evaluation and potential post-hack incubation.

• Bachelor’s and Master’s students
• Young professionals (1–3 years of experience)

Technology Stack

Participants must use (or align closely with) the following stack:

• Frontend: React.js / Next.js / AngularJS; Mobile: Flutter / Kotlin / React Native / Swift
• Backend: Node.js (Express.js / NestJS), PHP, Java, Python
• Database (optional): PostgreSQL / MongoDB
• AI/ML (for applicable challenges): Python with TensorFlow / PyTorch / OpenCV
• Cloud/Deployment (optional): AWS / GCP / Azure / Firebase
• Version Control (mandatory): GitHub / Gitlab / Bitbucket

 

Submission Requirements

Each team must submit:

• Solution Deck (Mandatory): PDF/PPT covering problem understanding, proposed solution, in-scope and out-of-scope, user journey, technology stack, architecture diagram, and wireframes. Max 15 slides.
• Working Prototype (Optional): Mobile app, API, or model with GitHub repository link.
• Source Code Repository: Hosted on GitHub with clean code, README, and tech stack justification.
• Demo Video (Good to Have): 3-5 minutes explaining the problem and solution walkthrough.
• Submission Form: Team name, members, selected challenge, and solution summary (max 200 words).

Rules

• Plagiarism leads to disqualification.
• Teams must build solutions during the hackathon period.
• Pre-built modules and libraries are allowed, but core logic must be original.
• Judges' decision is final.
